A tribute to an extraordinary father, grandpa, brother & friend, James Jolito
On December 7, 1928, James was born in the small Philippine village of Talisay to a dressmaker and a school teacher. He was very ambitious and always dreamed of living abroad. As he grew up, he studied hard, and when his parents only had enough money to send one of their children to college, and his brother was chosen to go, James worked various side jobs to earn enough money to put himself through university and graduate with an engineering degree, all on his own.
He always acknowledges his strong Baptist Christian faith as the catalyst to get him through any hardship.
Shortly after graduation, he was on a plane to Toronto, Canada after landing his dream job as a chemical engineer for a major manufacturing company.
He was only in Toronto for less than 3 years when he was not only promoted to a supervisor role at his company, he also met a beautiful woman at his local church whom he eventually married and they gave birth to their only child.
James continued to thrive with ambition by taking interest in many small business ventures, as well as getting licensed as a realtor, and also becoming a chemical engineering tutor.
His biggest commitment was to his family. He loved his wife and daughter dearly. So dearly that he was the “Yes Man” to everything his daughter ever asked for as a child, from agreeing getting his toenails painted because she wanted him to “look like mommy", to being completely accepting of her career as an artist even though it was against every grain of wisdom he had ever learned in his own experience.
James lived his entire life with passion, commitment and strength. And because of his thirst for excellence, his family was able to thrive in his presence. His wife of 26 years grew her own career as a successful registered nurse, and his daughter grew up with the freedom to pursue the career of her own dreams while he and his wife supported her higher education financially, and then bit his tongue when she went into an industry that he did not believe in. His sister’s life also transformed in his presence. He found her after 40 years of being apart, moved her from the Philippines to Canada so she could be with him, and then brought her together with her current husband.

Everything that he was and everything that he wasn’t was the most perfect gift that everyone in his life could ever ask for. He was a magician of possibilities, and an achemist who transformed lives in his presence. The impact he made during his earthly life, and the impact he continues to make from the other side, creates extraordinary results.
